How Facebook Can Help You Recruit Top-Notch Talent

CareerBuilder, for example, has launched Find a Better Job, a Facebook application that will search candidates’ profile information for items like hometown, college, network and major in order to match members up with upcoming jobs and internships. The application is an extension of CareerBuilder’s CBcampus service, which is targeted toward college students seeking jobs and internships. The opportunities listed in the database at CBcampus are used for matching Facebook users to jobs. The Facebook application also allows candidates to apply for jobs directly from their Facebook account.

Earlier this year, Jobster unveiled a new application, launched with 230 partner employers, that directly connects job recruiters with candidates. A company need only add its name to the directory of Jobster-powered Facebook Talent Networks as a featured employer. Jobster then notifies interested Facebook users about job openings and recruiting events at their preselected employers of choice. The application also allows Facebook enthusiasts to convert their Facebook profile into a Jobster résumé.

But while clever Facebook applications “broaden the ability of corporations to reach students,” said Mehler, he added that there are drawbacks. For example, social-networking sites such as Facebook should never be considered a replacement for face-to-face interaction with college grads. “Companies really have to get involved on campus,” said Mehler. “They have to be there and use ambassadors, interns and professors who will help them get to the best and brightest students.”

What’s more, making the most of Facebook is certainly no excuse to let a company’s official Web site fall by the wayside. Rather, businesses need to constantly update their site, ensuring the availability and easy accessibility of accurate information.
